  Auriel is an angel, one tasked long ago with protecting an unspoiled forest. As humanity encroached on the wild lands, Auriel has kept his charge safe from their greed and uninhabited by any but those who belong there. Which can include humans, provided they show the proper respect. In general, respect is very important to Auriel, who does not demand tribute, but does demand to be treated like their station commands. They are a very old, very powerful entity, and he is not unaware of that fact.
  That said, Auriel is not always so severe. They're very gentle with their forest's inhabitants, including the dryad Dianthe. They spend most of their time high up in a tree, watching over things and taking minor complaints from birds and squirrels. He doesn't only protect the woods from outsiders, but keeps things in balance within. At the start of spring, Auriel trades places with their counterpart, Tzurael, and wakes up again in the fall.
