• Background:

  Grendel didn't start out as a werewolf. He didn't even start out as "Grendel". As a young doctor in residency, he treated a patient with a bizarre set of symptoms; they'd recently been attacked by an animal, and their features were starting to shift. He was bitten by the patient while trying to help them, and his life was forever changed- quite literally. Something went wrong during his first turn into a wolf, and he got stuck in a kind of in-between phase. He wasn't fully animal, but nowhere near human enough to blend back in to society. Unable to shift back to "normal", he consigned himself to the wildereness, worried he might hurt someone, or that someone might try to hurt him. He remained like this for years, living a half-feral existence, until sightings of a "wolf man" tipped off a certain government agency to his location.
  It took him a long time to regain his human manners, and he still sometimes struggles with certain things, but Grendel now lives a relatively normal life, albeit in secret. He tends to the wounds and maladies of the agency's members, including the non-human ones. He isn't very friendly, and prefers to be left alone, but he isn't dangerous, and he takes offense to being considered so. He chose his current name after having forgotten his old one, choosing the name of a monster from literature.
