  Micah did not volunteer for his current job, it sort of fell into his lap by accident- and by force. He was already in the employ of the government when a particular job sent him on a cross course with the supernatural. He reacted better than most, and the former head recommended him as his replacement. When first approached with this job offer, Micah actually said no. But the government is the government, and they had ways of blocking him from any other job until he took theirs. Now he's sort of stuck there, but it's not all so bad.
  Micah doesn't hate his job, he just hates the unnecessary parts, like redundant reports and pointless meetings. He much prefers fieldwork, going out to investigate and interact with the supernatural, even if that doesn't always end pleasantly. He's a capable leader, even if he wishes he didn't have to be. But, well, someone has to, and as much as he dislikes the antics of some of his fellow agents, he's ultimately the right person for the job.
